Abducted boy found dead in Sherpur, 2 held

Police recovered strangulated body of a minor from Chapa Jhuri Bridge area in Nakla upazila in Shrepur on Monday.

The boy had been kidnapped from Narayanganj for ransom two days ago.

The deceased was Ramzan, 9, of Jalkuri area in Siddhirganj upazila, Narayanganj.

Police and locals said receiving information from Siddhirganj police station, a team of Nakla police station conducted a drive in different areas of the upazila and arrested two people on suspicion.

The arrestees were Ripon, 20, of Baromaisa village, and Hamidul Islam, 21, of Dhamna village of the upazila.

Officer-in-Charge of Nakla police station Fasihur Rahman said the body of Ramzan had been dumped near Chapa Jhuri Bridge and recovered around 12am, following Ripon and Hamidul’s confessional statement during interrogation.

According to Ripon and Hamidul, they had abducted the boy from his house in Jalkuri area for ransom on Saturday night and brought him to Nakla, said OC Fasihur.

As the boy begun to cry, they got panicked and strangulated him to death early Sunday and dumped the body near Chapa Jhuri Bridge.

Assistant Superintendent of police Salahuddin Shikdar of Sherpur district said the body of the boy was taken to Nakla police station and later it would be taken to Sherpur General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

A case was filed with Siddhirganj police Ssation.

The arrested kidnappers would be handed over to Siddhirganj police, added ASP Shikdar.
