Update : 08 Feb 2025, 11:20 AM

Customs authorities have arrested a passenger at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport with 2kg 100 grams of gold hidden inside charger lights.

The gold was recovered from passenger Sajib, who arrived from Kuwait on Wednesday at 8am.

Dhaka Customs House Commissioner Zakir Hossain confirmed the information.

According to customs officials, during the "D Shift" duty, Sajib Hossain landed at the airport on Kuwait Airways flight J9533. His movements appeared suspicious to customs officers, leading to surveillance.

When he proceeded to the Green Channel with his baggage, all his bags were scanned. Upon scanning, two charger light batteries inside one of his bags appeared unusual. Multiple scans revealed the presence of concealed gold.

Subsequently, in the presence of relevant authorities, the charger lights were dismantled at the baggage counter, uncovering eight gold sheets weighing a total of 2kg 100 grams.

Officials said that necessary legal actions have been taken regarding the incident.
