Police arrested two people, including a leader of the Narayanganj metropolitan Swechasebak League, following a video of leaflet distribution published on the Facebook page of the Awami League.

They were arrested at an autorickshaw garage in the Sonakanda area of Bandar upazila, Narayanganj, on Monday night, Bandar police station Inspector Shahadat Hossain confirmed on Tuesday.

The two arrested individuals are Zaman Mia, general secretary of ward No 20 Narayanganj metropolitan Swechasebak League, and Swechasebak League activist Saidul Islam.

According to police and local sources, the two arrested individuals had been conducting a leaflet distribution campaign for the past two days in Kolagachia and Sonakanda areas of Bandar upazila as per a central directive of the Awami League.

Following this, Zaman Mia and his follower Saidul Islam distributed leaflets at their own autorickshaw garage.

Later, on Monday, a related video was uploaded on the verified Facebook page of the Bangladesh Awami League, and within moments the video spread rapidly.

This led to widespread discussions across the district. Subsequently, police conducted an operation and arrested the two individuals.

Regarding the matter, Bandar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tarikul Islam said: "They are now in police custody. A case is in the process of being filed against them."

Notably, Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam on Monday warned that anyone distributing Awami League leaflets would be arrested.

He said the leaflets had content that could cause a disruption to law and order.
