The chief judicial magistrate of the Chittagong District Court on Sunday received death threat in a letter, which said he would be killed unless war crimes suspect Salauddin Quader Chowdhury was released within August.
The letter also threatened to destroy the Chittagong Court building, the railway station, the Power Development Board office, the Port House, the Customs House and the office of the Chittagong Metropolitan Police commissioner.
The letter contains names of seven people as senders: Dolon, Munni Das, Jashim Uddin and Kamal Ahmed of Patherhat, Pradip Das of Patiya, Manna Hasan Mia of Raozan, and Mohiuddin Ahmed of Fatikchhari.
The letter to Chief Judicial Magistrate Mir Ruhul Amin arrived at the court around 12:30pm, but it reached the CJM’s chamber around 4:30pm, said Rezaul Masud Reza, additional deputy commissioner (prosecution) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police.
He said a general dairy had been lodged with Kotwali police station in this regard while security was tightened on court premises and around the magistrate’s residence.
The official said they were investigating the matter.
