Ex-police inspector sued for hiding wealth info

The Anti-Corruption Commission Sunday sued a former police inspector in the Chittagong city on charge of accumulating wealth beyond his stated income source and also for hiding his actual income statement.

According to police sources, Deputy Assistant Director (DAD) Azizul Haq of ACC’s Chittagong-2 region lodged the case with the port city’s Double Mooring police station around 4pm.

The accused, M Karim Gani, 65, former Criminal Investigation Department inspector of Chittagong Metropolitan Police, is a resident of Chandgaon Residential Area in the port city, Matiul Islam, officer-in-charge of Double Mooring police station said.

The ACC DAD told the Dhaka Tribune the former police official accumulated around Tk2m worth of wealth which contradicted with the official’s stated income source during his service period. He also hid around Tk1.4m from his income statement submitted to the ACC.

He said the police official had been sued under section 26(1) and 26 (2) of Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2004 and section 5(2) under Corruption Prevention Act 1947.
