Shirhan Sharif Tamal, son of former land minister Shamsur Rahman Sharif Dilu, has been arrested with firearms and ammunition, according to the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

He was named in a case related to an attack on students involved in the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

RAB said that Tamal was arrested on Thursday night from the Ishwardi area of Pabna.

During the arrest, authorities seized a foreign pistol, a magazine, four rounds of ammunition, 10 yaba tablets, and a private car from him.

The arrest was confirmed by ANM Imran Khan, senior assistant director of RAB’s Legal and Media Wing.

Tamal has faced multiple allegations in the past, including attacks on business establishments, vandalism of a freedom fighter’s home, and assault on journalists.

He has multiple cases filed against him during the Awami League government's tenure.

In December 2017, after being jailed for attacking journalists, Shirhan Sharif Tamal was expelled from the Jubo League for violating party discipline and being involved in illegal activities.
