Update : 31 Jul 2013, 08:24 PM

Hours after the killing of a key accused in a "gunfight," the home ministry has authorised the charges of conducting investigation into the murder of Jubo League leader Reazul Haque Khan Milky to Rapid Action Battalion.

Lt Col Ziaul Ahsan, director of Rab intelligence wing said: "As we have been dealing with the case since the beginning, we [Rab] prayed to the home ministry to be handed the responsibility of the investigation."

Milky, 43, organising secretary of the Dhaka City (South) unit Jubo League, was shot dead allegedly by a party man in the capital's Gulshan area early Tuesday.

One of the prime accused in a case filed by Milky's brother Maj Rashidul Haque, Zahid Siddiki Tarek, joint secretary of the same unit of Jubo League, was killed in a "gunfight" between his cohorts and Rab in the capital Wednesday night.

The case, filed with Gulshan police station, accused 11 persons including the six detained by Rab on early Tuesday for the murder.

On Tuesday, Rab expressed interest in investigating the Milky murder case.

Within four hours of Reazul's shooting, Rab arrested six persons, including Zahid Siddiki Tarek, for his murder.

Tarek was arrested at a private clinic where he was being treated for a bullet wound in his back.

Rab officials said Tarek was the main suspect in the shooting incident, and he was wounded when members of his gang were firing at Rezaul Milky.
