Thirteen years after the murder, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) unearthed that the wife of former MP of Saver Shamsuddoha Khan Majlish was murdered by her daughter as she became an eyewitness to the illegal relationship of her daughter.

Police also arrested three people including the daughter of ex-MP Majlish and two others in this connection.

The arrestees were identified as Shamima Khan Majlish alias Poppy, 57, Arati Sarkar and Subal Kumar Roy, 50.

All of them were arrested from Bhagalpur and Pakiza area of Savar on June 4.

Poppy had an illicit relationship with Subol Kumar and disputes over family property and political enmity were also considered as reasons behind the murder, said Qudrat-e-Khuda, superintendent of Dhaka police of PBI while speaking at a press briefing at its Dhanmondi headquarters on Tuesday.

Selima Khan Majlish, 63, wife of former MP and also the president of Dhaka district unit Awami League, Shamsuddoha Majlish used to live with her daughter Poppy, another daughter Tilottoma and her husband Abul Kalam Azad, another daughter Selina Khan Majlish alias Shilpi, 38, and son Plabon, 12, at a flat.

On June 14, 2011, Selima was found injured with her throat slit between 6:30am to 7am. The belly of Salima was also found cut.

Later, she was taken to the Combined Military Hospital and succumbed to her injuries on June 18, 2011.

Shafiur Rahman alias Shafi, brother of Selima, filed a case.

Police arrested Selima’s son-in-law Abul Kalam Azad and husband of domestic help Haripodo Sarkar in this connection.

The case was later shifted to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). During the four-year investigation, CID arrested Abu Sufian Rana, 32, in this connection but excluded his name from the final report as he was not found guilty.

CID submitted the final report before the court in 2015. The court then transferred the case to the PBI.

During the investigation PBI arrested Subol Kumar on May 30 this year and following his confessional statement, PBI arrested Poppy and Aroti in the murder case.

According to the confessional statement of Subol, it is known that Subol with the help of Shamima cut the neck of Selima when she was sitting at the dining room.

Later, they took her to the bedroom of her son and ran away after keeping her lying on the bed in a wounded condition.
