Police on Friday arrested an activist of Swechchhasebak League for his alleged involvement in killing of Sanarullah, secretary of Awami League Hariasankarpur union unit.
Confirming the arrest, Nazrul Islam, assistant superintendent of police in Jhenaidah sadar circle, told the Dhaka Tribune that the detainee, Ibadat Hossain, is an active member of Swechchhasebak League, an affiliated organisation of the ruling AL.
Sanarullah was chopped to death by unidentified assailants at Panami village under Harisankarpur union of Jhenadah sadar upazila on Thursday night while he was returning to his home at Arjanarayanpur village, about 16km from the district headquarters.
However, the ASP admitted that the police is yet to detect the motive and any clue of the killing.
"Ibadat Hossain was taken in for interrogation," he said.
