DB to investigate councillors’ involvement in teen gang

  • 33 arrested recently
  • Names of masterminds, councillors came from arrested

Detective branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said that action would be taken against councillors if their involvement was found with teen gangs.

DMP Additional Commissioner (Investigation) Md Harunor Rashid told this to reporters at his office on Minto Road in the capital on Tuesday.

He said: “Recently, the Wari and Gulshan divisions of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police have arrested 33 people involved in juvenile gangs in various areas of the capital. There are cases in the name of most of the arrested persons.”

The arrested harassed the targeted persons in different areas of the capital including Badda, Bhatara, Turag, 300 Feet and Jatrabari. They then surrounded the victims and snatched their mobile phones and gold ornaments. Besides, they were involved in robbery, extortion and theft. They were also involved in drug dealing.

Mentioning that they have received names of some masterminds, the DB chief said: “The masterminds will also be arrested. Every team of DB is working in this regard.”

The DB chief said: “The arrested persons have given the names of some former and current councillors. It is being investigated. If the name of any councillor is found in the investigation, then legal action will be taken against them.”
