An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and two constables have been arrested in Rajshahi and Dinajpur on charges of helping examinees of the primary teacher recruitment exam to cheat.

The arrested individuals are ASI Golam Rabbani and two constables Abdur Rahman, and Shahriyar Parvez Shimul. They were sent to court on Saturday evening after their arrest.

RMP spokesperson Jamirul Islam said that a candidate filed a case on Saturday evening with Rajpara police station against the three named individuals and two unnamed men bringing an allegation of cheating.

Based on this case, ASI Golam Rabbani, Constable Abdur Rahman, and Constable Shahriyar Parvez Shimul were produced before a Rajshahi court following their arrest, said the RMP official.

Abdur Rahman and Shahriyar Parvez Shimul were serving at the headquarters of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP), while Golam Rabbani, who previously served as a police constable, was promoted to ASI and had also served in the RMP.

According to police sources, the primary teacher recruitment exam was held on Friday. Before this exam, these police members had allegedly made deals with 15 to 20 job candidates, promising to help them pass the exam. They provided the candidates with very small headphones, through which answers to the exam questions were supposed to be communicated from outside.

The candidates were reportedly contracted for amounts ranging between Tk10-12 lakh each, for which checks and stamps were collected from the candidates.

During the police operation, several stamps, a cheque for Tk10 lakh, and 14 secret devices were recovered.

The RMP's detective branch members initially arrested Shahriyar Parvez Shimul and Abdur Rahman upon learning of their activities the night before the exam.

They were kept at the city DB police office from Thursday night to Saturday evening.

Following their information, ASI Golam Rabbani was arrested at Parbatipur police station in Dinajpur. Efforts are underway to identify others involved in this racket.

Police suspect that the racket may also involve fraudsters not affiliated with the police force.
