A train attendant was arrested on a charge of raping a physically disabled teenager in the Lalmonirhat-bound Lalmoni Express train on Wednesday.
The accused was identified as Akkas Ali, the attendant of the Lalmoni Express train.
A 13-year-old physically challenged, who was meant to go to Mymensingh, mistakenly boarded on Lalmoni Express train from Joydebpur Railway Station, police sources said.
Akkas Ali took the girl, who was travelling alone, to his room after finding that she did not have a ticket and raped her there.
Hearing the screams of the girl, duty policemen on the train rescued the girl, and sent her to the hospital for medical tests.
They also detained Akkas Ali.
Ruhul Amin of Lalmonirhat Railway Police Station filed a case with the Railway police station.
The accused was shown arrested in the case.
Lalmonirhat Railway police station Officer-in-Charge Ferdous Ali said: “The rape survivor's parents have been informed. The accused was detained and sent to court. The girl is undergoing treatment at Sadar Hospital.”
