Update : 18 Aug 2013, 05:15 PM

An Indian smuggler was killed and two members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) were injured in a clash between BGB and smugglers along Hatkhola-Uchna border at Panchbibi upazila in Joypurhat yesterday.

Lt Col Sabbir Khasru Ali, commanding officer of Joypurhat BGB-3, said when a BGB patrol team challenged a group of smugglers who intruded into Bangladesh territory around 3:30am, they attacked the BGB members with sharp weapons, leaving two BGB men wounded.

BGB fired three rounds of gunshot in a bid to bring the situation under control, leaving one of the smugglers injured.

The smugglers retreated to their own territory with the injured man.

Later, BGB officials came to know that one of the smugglers, who had sustained a bullet wound during BGB firing, succumbed to his injuries in Indian territory.

The injured BGB men— Nayek Mosharref and Sepahi Motiar Rahman— were admitted to Joypurhat BGB Battalion hospital. BGB men seized a cow from the border area, abandoned by the smugglers.
