Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Monday claimed to have arrested a couple in connection with the murder of a family of three, including a father, mother, and son in Savar’s Ashulia area.
The arrested Sagar Ali and his wife Ishita Begum were held from the Shafipur area of Gazipur, said Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of the force’s legal and media wing, around 10pm.
It is initially believed that there could be financial transaction issues related to this murder, he said.
RAB has not yet disclosed their relationship with the deceased family.
“The motives behind the murder will be disclosed in a press briefing on Tuesday. The arrested parties are still being questioned. No further details are being shared at the moment,” Khandaker Al Moin added.
Police recovered the throat-slit bodies of three people, including parents and their teenage son, from a rented flat in a multi-storied building in Ashulia, Savar, on Saturday night.
The deceased are Muktar Hossain alias Babul, 50, resident of Lohagara village of Pirganj police station in Thakurgaon, his wife Shahida Begum of Rajshahi, 40, and their son Mehendi Hasan Joy, 12.
Later, Ainul Haque, the elder brother of the deceased Babul, filed a case against unidentified persons in connection with the murder at the Ashulia police station on the same night.
Both husband and wife worked in separate garment factories in Ashulia.
Residents in the building detected a foul smell from the fourth-floor flat in the evening. Suspicious, they knocked on the door of the flat. Since the door was unlocked, they entered and discovered the bodies of the mother and son lying on the bed inside one of the rooms.
They informed the house owner and the local police station. Law enforcement officers arrived at the scene, locating the bodies of the mother and son in one room and the father's body in another.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the killings occurred at least three days before the bodies were found.
