HC rejects Hall-Mark chair’s plea to change bail condition

Update : 12 Aug 2013, 06:57 PM

A High Court vacation bench yesterday made out of list a petition filed by Hall-Mark Group Chairman Jasmine Islam challenging her bail condition of paying Tk1bn every month.

On August 4, a Dhaka court passed the conditional bail order. At that time, Jasmine agreed with the condition.

But a week later, her counsel barrister Rafique-Ul Huq yesterday urged the court to hear the matter. However, the court did not want to hear it that day.

The bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam made the petition out of list.

The Anti-Corruption Commission is set to lodge a petition today challenging the bail order, Khurshid Alam Khan, counsel of the commission, yesterday told the Dhaka Tribune.

He said Jasmine’s lawyer went to the court without providing the ACC a copy of the petition.

Jasmine was made accused in 11 cases filed by the ACC for allegedly withdrawing Tk25bn from the state-owned Sonali Bank’s Ruposhi Bangla Hotel Branch through forgery. She was arrested on October 18 last year.
