Locals claim that the local chairman of Porahati union parishad of the Jhenaidah Sadar upazila is cutting down roadside trees to make furniture for his house.
According to Banglanews24.com, Chairman Shahidul Islam Hiron cut down three Mahogany trees from Madhupur intersection on Sunday. Locals said it was not the first time that Shahidul cut down trees illegally he has done this before several other times.
The locals also claim that law enforcers did not take any actions against the chairman because of his position as a leader of the local chapter of the Awami League.
Refusing the allegations, Shahidul Islam claims he has never indulged in such illicit actions.
Shafiqul Islam, deputy commissioner of the district, said they will take the necessary legal actions against the chairman after an investigation has been launched.
