At least 252 undocumented Bangladeshi migrant workers have been detained by Malaysian immigration officers on Saturday.

The officers have detained some 425 people, and 252 of them are Bangladeshis, reports Free Malaysia Today, an online news portal.

They were detained due to not possessing valid identification documents, overstaying, or possessing expired temporary work permits.

The report said a raid was carried out at Cheria Heights apartments following investigations and surveillance for two weeks.

Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department Director Syamsul Bahrin Mohshin said the operation was carried out by 60 staff between 1am and 4am (local time).

The other detainees are from Myanmar, the Philippines, Indonesia, Cambodia, Nepal, and Pakistan.
