Police rescued a ninth-grade student who was abducted in Noakhali's Kabirhat upazila from the Daudkandi Bridge area of Comilla on Tuesday morning.
Eight people involved in the kidnapping have been detained at the time.
The detainees are main accused Sumon, 40, his accomplices Hasan, 20, Alauddin Imon, 25, Mizanur Rahman Mizan, 28, Abdur Rahim, 20, Saber Hossain Sabbir, 21, driver Sagar, 28, and the driver's accomplice Yashin Arafat Saqib, 23.
According to the complaint, Sumon used to harass the student on the way to and from school. Sumon entered the girl's village home with four-five accomplices during Iftar on Monday. At that time, they beat the student's mother and sister-in-law and abducted her.
The kidnappers looted mobile phones, gold and cash from the house while leaving. At night, the mother of the abductee filed a case with the police station under the Prevention of Women and Child Repression Act.
Based on the complaint, Kabirhat police station Officer-in-charge (OC) Rafiqul Islam said the police launched an operation to rescue the abducted girl.
A microbus was intercepted on the Daudkandi Bridge in the early hours of Tuesday with the help of Comilla's Daudkandi police station. The kidnapped schoolgirl was rescued at the time.
The main accused along with his seven accomplices were detained. They will be sent to the district jail through the judicial court, the OC added.
