Mother arrested over children's murder

Police have arrested a woman in Dhaka a day after her two children were found dead at their Basabo residence. Tanjina Aktar, who was described as being “mentally ill” by her husband, had been missing since Friday night. She was arrested from a house in north Basabo on Saturday morning, DMP's Khilgaon zone Additional Deputy Commissioner Monalisa Begum told the Dhaka Tribune. Nine-year-old Mashrafi Ibne Mahbub and his six-year-old sister Humayra Binte Mahbub were found with their throats slit at their house. “Tanjina has admitted to killing her children during primary interrogation,” ADC Monalisa said. The motive remains unclear although the mother has told police that she got directions to kill her children in a dream, the police officer added. “We will conduct a thorough investigation,” Monalisa said.
