A man in his early 30s allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his home in the Rampura area of Dhaka on Friday night – within a month of his wedding.
The deceased was SM Monwar Abeed, 30, son of Zakir Hossain Shikder. He used to live with his family in their apartment housed in a building named Kabita Rantadwip.
According to his family, Abid, who worked at a software company, got married to Tasmeem Azam on December 16.
The newly married couple were supposed to go to Cox's Bazar for their honeymoon on Friday night and they had also bought tickets for the trip.
Zakir Hossain Shikder, the father of the deceased, said: "I don't understand what happened… Everyone, including his wife and mother, sat at the table for dinner, and ate together. At that time, Abeed went to his room saying that he was going to change his clothes.
“As he was not coming back, it was seen later that he was hanging from the ceiling in his room. Being rescued, he was first taken to a local hospital, and then to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). On-duty doctors pronounced him dead after examination at 12:50am.”
The body was kept at the DMCH morgue for autopsy.
Zakir said he could not understand why his son committed suicide as there had been no quarrels in the house.
Md Abdul Jalil, inspector at Rampura police station, said that it is initially believed that he committed suicide by hanging himself. The family could not give any specific reason for his death. The exact cause of death can be determined after getting the autopsy report.
