Verdict of Himu murder case on Aug 14

Update : 11 Aug 2016, 07:32 PM
Himadri Majumder Himu, 18, an A-level student of Summerfield School and College in Chittagong, was pushed off from a four-storey building after he was beaten brutally by the accused and tortured by ferocious German Doberman dogs in the port city’s Panchlaish area on April 27, 2012. He succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Dhaka on May 23, after fighting for life for 26 days. Metropolitan Additional Public Prosecutor (PP) Anupam Chakrabarty said: “The court of fourth Additional Metropolitan Session Judge Nurul Islam has fixed August 14 for delivering the verdict of Himu murder case.” Thursday was scheduled to announce the verdict, but it was deferred due to ‘full court reference.’ Earlier, the court fixed July 28 to deliver the verdict following a hearing on July 16. Then, the date was deferred, as the judge of the court was on leave. The accused are Zahedul Islam Shaon, Shahadat Hossain Shaju, Mahbub Ali Khan Danny, Junaid Ahmed Riad and his father Shah Selim Tipu. Tipu, Danny, and Saju are now behind bars while Riad is on the run, said police sources. Shaon has gone into hiding soon after he was released on bail. Himu’s family members and police said Himu was murdered for his anti-drug activities.
