A college girl was beaten to death allegedly by her in-laws at Khilkhet in the city on Saturday.
The victim was identified as Monira Akhter, 21, a 1st year student of Nokonja Model College and daughter of Md Mostafa of Lahnia Paschimpara under Khilkhet police station.
Sources said Nasir Uddin, a 2nd year student of the same college, secretly married Monira on June 17 following a love affair.
Monira’s family sources said when Nasir took Monira to his own house on Friday morning after passing several days at Nasir’s friend’s house his family members got furious.
At one stage, Nasir’s family members, including his younger brother Masud and elder sister Hasina mercilessly beat up Monira, leaving her unconscious.
Nasir rescued Monira and admitted her to a local hospital. Later she was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital at about 8pm.
Monira succumbed to her injuries at DMCH at about 8am on Saturday. The body was sent to DMCH morgue for autopsy.
