The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested a man for pretending to be a traffic inspector of the police and extorting money from transports in the Purbachal area under Narayanganj police.
Rubel Ahmed, 36, was arrested on Monday from the 300 feet road’s no 6 bridge area in the capital.
RAB-1 chief Lt Col Abdullah Al Momen confirmed the matter to Bangla Tribune on Wednesday.
According to RAB, on July 11, they came to know that a man was pretending to be a traffic inspector, stopping vehicles under the pretext of checking the documents on the 300 ft road and extorting money out of them.
The elite police unit then carried out a raid and arrested him on Monday and he admitted to his involvement during primary questioning.
A navy blue cap with police monogram, a laser light, a motorcycle, a visa card, metal rod, three mobile phones and Tk20,140 in cash was seized from him during the arrest.
