Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Saturday said they have found several leads in the murder of Awami League leader Jahidul Islam Tipu and college student Samia Afrin Prity.
“We have found several leads and information on the murders and have already quizzed a number of people in this connection,” RAB Legal and Media Wing Director Khandaker Al Moin told Bangla Tribune.
Both the shooter and the motorcycle rider were wearing helmets, hence it is difficult to identify them, he said before adding: “However, we have already started investigating this case by interviewing several suspects.”
In response to a question on whether the killings were due to political animosity, the RAB officer said: "The real reason could only be known after arresting the shooter and the motorcyclist.”
Meanwhile, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan has said the masterminds behind the killing of Tipu and Prity will be traced and brought to justice once the investigation is complete.
On Thursday, the former local Awami League leader and university student Prity were shot to death in the Shahjahanpur neighbourhood of Dhaka.
Monir Hossain Munna, the driver of Tipu’s car, told reporters that they were on their way home when some unidentified assailants opened fire on them, wounding both of them.
