Members of Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBn) arrested a man along with 1.4 kg gold ornaments and seized Malaysian currency worth about Tk2.03m at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Saturday night.
The arrested man was identified as Gulam Rabbani, 39, of Muradnagar upazila of Comilla. He arrived here by a flight of Singapore Airlines on Saturday night, reports UNB.
Senior ASP Ehtesham of the APBn said acting on secret information, they challenged Gulam Rabbani when he was getting into a vehicle in the terminal parking area after coming out of the airport through green channel.
He said they recovered 194 pieces of gold chains kept hidden inside the shoes of Rabbani.
Meanwhile, another passenger identified as Shahidul Haque fled the airport, leaving behind his luggage. 88,412 Malaysian Ringgit equivalent to Tk20.3m were recovered from the luggage.
