Tawki murder: Investigation reassigned to Rab

Update : 05 Jun 2013, 08:16 AM

The High Court (HC) has issued an order transferring the probe into the Tawki murder case to the Rapid Action Battalion.

In the order, the HC issued the directive for the investigation to be assigned only to officials at or above the rank of inspector.

The joint bench of Judge Kazi Rezaul Hoque and Judge ABM Altaf Hossain passed the order on May 28 following a writ petition filed by Rafiur Rabbi, Toki’s father. Rafiur appealed that the investigation be reassigned to the elite force, because the police had not handled it properly.

The court demanded an explanation form the police on the delay of the investigation process and asked that the police respond to the query within two weeks.

Rafiur handed over the copy of the order to the superintendent of police of Narayanganj on Monday.

Officer-in-Charge Manjur Kader of the Naraynganj sadar police station, who was also the investigation officer in the Toki case, said he knew about the HC’s order, but had not received a copy of it yet.

He said the necessary steps would be taken after he received the said copy.

On March 8, the police recovered the body of Tanvir Mohammad Tawki, 17, son of Rafiur Rabbi, convener of Narayanganj Ganajagaran Mancha, from the banks of the Shitalakkhya River two days after he had gone missing.
