Banaripara upazila BCL unit president Sumon Hossen Molla confessed to raping a newlywed bride after detaining her husband.
Sajjad Hossain, officer in-charge of Banaripara police station, said Sumon was arrested on Sunday night in a case filed by the victim's husband.
He was produced before the additional chief judicial magistrate court led by Magistrate Shihabul where the confessional statement was recorded.
After his confession, the magistrate sent him to jail.

The court also recorded the statement of the victim and her husband.
Police arrested Sumon, president of Banaripara upazila Chhatra League, on Sunday from Kalibari road in Barisal for allegedly raping a newly married bride on July 15.

According to the case statement, Sumon demanded Tk1 lakh as extortion from the victim's husband when came to visit Banaripara with his wife.
When the extortion demand was refused, the Chhatra League thugs retaliated with rape.
