Two suspected robbers were killed in a ‘shootout’ between their cohorts and members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) at Sonargaon Janapath intersection in city’s Uttara sector-11 early Wednesday, says banglanews24.com.
The deceased were identified as Saju Akand, 28, and Jahirul Islam, 30.
Rab operation officer ASP Morshed and Rab media wing assistant director Captain Maksud said: “A patrol team signalled a speeding private car to stop at the check post in front of Maskat plaza around 5am.”
Violating the signal, the passengers of the vehicle tried to flee the spot and opened fire on the Rab team, prompting them to fire back.
At one stage the microbus stopped and two passengers fled, they added.
The elite force then discovered Saju and Jahirul with bullet wounds inside the abandoned vehicle.
They seized the private car and recovered two foreign-made pistols and nine rounds of bullets, three choppers and a hammer from the scene.
Rab-1 DAD Aliur Jaman took them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared them dead around 7:30am.
Later, the bodies were shifted to the morgue of the hospital for autopsy.
