The chief of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Sunday said that the elite force was ready to provide security to the citizens during the Eid by mobilizing its nationwide networks.

"We have stepped up surveillance across the country to ensure overall security during the Eid-ul-Fitr," RAB Director General Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun told reporters after inspecting security arrangements at the National Eidgah.

He added that extra RAB personnel had been called out to enforce the security vigil across the country.

"The RAB's bomb disposal unit and dog squad have already completed sweeping of the National Eidgah along with important Eidgah grounds and various places," he added.

Besides, Mamun said, the force had installed a control room, ensured striking reserve forces, foot and mobile patrol, set vehicle scanners, observation posts, check posts and close circuit television (CCTV) cameras.

"We have ensured a monitoring system to deal with any untoward situation," he added.

"We have also set up temporary RAB camps and check posts at launch terminals, and bus and railway stations for the safety of the homebound people during the Eid journey," Mamun said.

He said that they had taken various steps to stop harassment of passengers, overcharging in fares and carrying extra passengers, and to prevent extortion on roads and waterways.

The RAB chief said that the commando team was kept ready to deal with any sabotage and attack.

"Helicopters have been kept ready full-time. Law and order is also being monitored in the payment of wages and bonuses to garment workers across the country," he continued.

Mamun also mentioned that they had opened a hotline number (01777720029) at the RAB Headquarters for people facing problems during the Eid holidays.
