Update : 12 May 2013, 03:44 AM

Bomb makers and suppliers are getting the upper hand over the law enforcement agencies despite their continuous vigilance to contain their subversive activities.

Political leaders are also cashing in on the bomb makers’ activities.

The thugs are helping political activists resort to violence during the general strike.

Tracking their violent activities, members of the law enforcement agencies have made a list of bomb suppliers and makers as per directive of the home ministry.

Recently, they have also submitted a list of bomb suppliers to the ministry.

Law enforcement officials said around 1,000 bomb makers are contributing to violent activities in the country with the blessings of political leaders.

Of them, around 450 bomb suppliers and makers are active in city who supply bombs to different political party activists as per their demand.

In this regard, Joint Commissioner of Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Monirul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune recently they have arrested some crude bomb makers and found sensational information from them.

Following their information, a list of bomb suppliers has been created and members of the intelligence department already started combing operations to nab the listed criminals, he added.

The uses of crude bombs are increasing every day in the wake of repeated general strikes enforced by political parties.

The practice of exploding bombs became widespread largely after the court started declaring verdict of war criminals.

All efforts to rein in crude-bomb attack went in vain. Moreover, the incidents of cocktail blasts are rising every day and injuring a number of innocent people including school-going children.

The bomb makers are supplying bombs safely to party activists at a minimum rate of Tk500.

Sometimes, they also are blasting cocktails in addition to supplying as per the order of the concerned party.

In those cases, they charge Tk300 for a single blast in an empty place, Tk500 for bombing vehicles and Tk600 to Tk800 for law enforcers and their vehicles.

The bomb suppliers are very active in Rajshahi, Chittagong, Khulna, Kustia, Barisal and Rangpur areas.

Some of the top-listed bomb makers are Jobayer Ahmed and Nurul Islam of Agargaon; Sohrab Hossain, Khondokar Enamul Haque, SM Abu Hossain Sarowar and Babul Howladher of Mirpur; Mossharaf Husain of Old Dhaka; Sayed, Monir, Selim, Mamun, Kabir, Hasan, Juwel, Sani, Bappi, Shanto, Robin and Narodom Saha of Khilgaon; Ataur Rahman Ata, Henri Sarkar, Joydeb, Rabbi, Rahat and Hossain of Uttara, Rakib, Rasel, Ali, Delowar Hossain, Foysal, Dilu, Ovi, Boga Roni, Saiful Islam, Rajesh Hasan of Jatrabari, Rajib, Hira, Munna, Tahsin, Bappi, Ishtiaq, Jitu and Gias of Mohakhali; Kanti Barua of Amin Bazar; Salauddin of Mogbazar and Hasan of Malibagh.

ATM Habibur Rahman, director, legal and media wing of Rapid Action Battalion Headquarters, told the Dhaka Tribune that members of the elite force are always active in arresting the criminals who not only supply crude bombs but are also linked to any kind of explosion.

“Recently, we have arrested some crude bomb suppliers and also recovered a quantity of explosive powder from their posession,” he said. Members of the elite force are vigilant and are raiding different parts of the country after collecting information from the arrestees and intelligence department to arrest criminals who are creating violence.
