The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police has been tasked with investigating the charges of unlawful possession of liquors and narcotics against Dhallywood actor Pori Moni.

After the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) filed the case against Pori Moni with Banani police station on Thursday, the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) was assigned to run the investigation on Friday.

However, hours later, the case was transferred to the CID, who will now interrogate the actor.

Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, Sheikh Omar Faruq, additional DIG of CID's Dhaka metro unit, said: “The narcotics cases filed against Pori Moni and Nazrul Raz have been transferred to CID.

"We are taking charge of the case related documents and the process is ongoing. The case was filed with the Banani police station. The accused will soon be handed over to us.”

“A total of five cases – two of Helena Jahangir, and one each of models Marium Akter Mou, Faria Mahabub Piasha, and their associate Mishu Hasan – were transferred to CID on Thursday. Of the total seven cases transferred to us so far, six were filed under the Narcotics Control Act,” the senior police official added.

On Friday afternoon, DB Joint Commissioner Harun Ur Rashid said Pori Moni had been involved in unethical business under the guise of her film career.

Zayed Khan, general secretary of the Bangladesh Film Artistes' Association, went to the DB office in the capital on Friday.

While leaving the office, he told reporters that the association would not take any liability for any actor’s misdeeds.

“We will take a decision on suspending her from the association at an executive committee meeting scheduled on Saturday,” he said.

On Thursday, a Dhaka court gave investigators four days to interrogate the actor after Banani police’s Inspector Sohel Rana sought a seven-day remand in two cases started by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

The elite police unit detained Pori Moni on Wednesday after raiding her home in Dhaka.

As many as 19 bottles of liquor, four grams of ice or crystal meth, and a blot of LSD were found at Pori Moni’s flat, said RAB.

The court on Thursday also remanded Pori Moni’s associate Ashraful Islam Dipu, who was held from the actor's flat at the upscale neighbourhood of Banani.

Producer Raz and his associate Sabuj Ali were held in a raid on Raz’s Banani house.

They have been remanded for four days in another case on similar charges. Raz had helped Pori Moni to make a career in the film industry, the RAB said in a media briefing on Friday.

RAB claimed Raz carried out illicit activities in the name of hosting night parties and kept pornographic content on his laptop. He faces charges under the Pornography (Control) Act in another case.
