Members of Customs Intelligence have seized some 19 illegal firearms at the freight unit of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
The consignment with a total of 58 firearms was imported from Italy under the license of M/S Imran Arms and Company on Tuesday.
According to the import law of Bangladesh, import of old and non-functioning firearms is prohibited.Members of various intelligence agencies and firearms experts were present during the examining of these weapons while they found 19 of them were either outdated or fabricated. They also found different unique numbers engraved in the body of different parts of these arms.
A total of 21 firearms have been seized on the charge of this irregularity in last three days. Two pistols were seized for the same reason on July 9 at Dhaka airport. Sixteen of these weapons are of Walter PP and five are of HK4 brand.
Customs Intelligence will investigate into the matter, confirmed by Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) Director General Moinul Khan.
