Police have arrested an 18-year-old in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila on charge of posting a digitally distorted photo of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on social media.
A team of police conducted a raid in the early hours of Thursday and arrested the accused, Raju Hossain, from Jagannathpur Bangalipara area in the upazila.
Raju is a resident of Gopaljhar village in Joldhaka upazila, Nilphamari.
Police have filed a case against Raju under the Digital Security Act, Thakurgon Sadar police station OC Tanvirul Islam said on Friday.
Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, the OC said Raju had uploaded a caricature of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and shared the digitally distorted photo with his friends on social media, which went viral.
"We tracked him down using technology,” the OC added.
Police recovered a mobile phone, which contains the caricature, from Raju during his arrest, the police official said.
He was produced before a local court after arrest, and the court sent him to jail on Thursday afternoon, the OC added.
