Who bought Farhad Mazhar's bus ticket?

Update : 08 Jul 2017, 01:00 PM
The source of the bus ticket used by the poet and columnist Farhad Mazhar during his alleged abduction on Monday is being questioned after the Dhaka Tribune was told an elderly man in white clothing walked in to the counter in Khulna and asked for a ticket back to Dhaka himself. Farhad said his kidnappers gave him a Dhaka-bound bus ticket on Hanif Paribahan, and told him to come straight to the capital. But this account has been questioned by the manager of the Hanif Paribahan counter at the Shibbari intersection in the city, who said a man matching Farhad's description paid the fare at around 3:40pm on Monday.

"He identified himself as Mr Gafur and picked seat number I3 on the 9pm bus," Nazmul Sadat Sadi told the Dhaka Tribune, adding that the mobile number provided for the booking was also found to not match the name. Detective Branch’s (DB) Joint Commissioner (JC) Abdul Baten said Farhad's statement claimed he went out to purchase medicine early on Monday morning and had called his wife Farida Akhter around 9:30am to say he had been abducted. “Farhad said the kidnappers dragged him inside a microbus in the morning and drove off (but) we are investigating how he was able to phone his wife under such circumstances," he said.

"Whether he bought the ticket himself or was forced on to the bus will be clear when he is interrogated after recovery," he said.
