The general manager (GM) of a footwear factory has been arrested on charges of raping a female colleague in Gazipur.
Police arrested Nazmul Hossain AKA Pavel, 36, after the rape survivor filed a case with Joydebpur police station on Tuesday morning.
The accused, Pavel, hailing from Nagarpur upazila of Tangail, resides in a rented house in Bhawal Mirzapur (College Gate) area. He is employed at Glory Footwear Limited’s factory situated at Pirajali Kacharipara area of Gazipur Sadar upazila.
Joydebpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mamun Al Rashid said Pavel called the female colleague to his rented house on different days and times by promising her to increase her salary and promotion.
Later, Pavel raped the woman more than once by threatening and intimidating her. The last time Pavel raped her was on January 10, and he forcibly forbade her to tell anyone about this, said police.
The rape survivor told the police that the GM of the footwear company is still threatening her in various ways. She said she took time filing the case because she wanted to do so only after consulting with relatives and local influentials of the area.
When produced before a magistrate, the court sent Pavel to jail on Tuesday afternoon.
Citing the case, the OC further said that Pavel had also forced the woman to quit the factory job making various death threats.
