A number of 15 to 20 homicides are committed in the capital in a month on average, according to the police.
Detective Branch Joint Commissioner Mahbub Alam came up with the figure at a press conference on Monday.
He said two incidents of murder took place so far in the capital in the current month.
On February 10, a man named Md Jakir Hossain was killed and another injured in the Purbo Jurain area. A case was filed with Kadamtali police station.
DB police arrested seven people in connection with the murder from the adjacent areas of the city on February 14.
The arrested -- Md Shukkur, Md Nurul Islam Swapan, Md Ratan alias Solaiman, Md Shafiqur Rahman alias Dipu, Fahim Hasan Tanvir alias Laden, Md Tariqul Islam, and Masud Parvez -- are also accused in murder, narcotics and arms cases, police said.

Mahbub Alam said: "The incident of murder took place over establishing supremacy in the area."
On February 12, a teenage boy named Hasan Mia was killed in Mugda and detectives apprehended seven teenagers who belonged to a gang "Bandage" led by one Tanvir, he said.
The teenage gangs remained inactive during the Covid-19 lockdown, the DB official said, but they are becoming active now while police are working on the matter.
"Mainly, children from the low-income families are involved with the teen-gang culture."
He added that a study on juvenile delinquency is underway.
