2 Rohingyas detained with 10 guns

They have been collecting illegal weapons and ammunition for a long time and selling them to terrorist groups

RAB has arrested two Rohingya refugees with 10 firearms from Teknaf in Cox's Bazar.

They were apprehended from the Damdamiya Bridge area of Teknaf around 9.30pm on Monday.

The detained are Syed Hossain, 55, son of late Amir Hossain of Shalbagan Rohingya camp and Bodi Alam, 20, son of Azizul Haque of Mushni Rohingya camp. They are both active members of the Zakir group.

Major Mehedi Hasan, deputy commander of the RAB-15 Cox's Bazar camp, said the operation was carried out on a tip-off that some armed Rohingya terrorists were smuggling weapons through the area adjacent to the Omarkhal Bridge in Damdamiya. 

Sensing the presence of RAB members, 10-12 persons tried to run away with two sacks. At that time they were chased and two people were arrested. Ten weapons including nine SBBLs and a one-shooter gun were recovered from their two sacks. The two detainees along with the recovered weapons have been handed over to Teknaf police station.

He also said that during the preliminary interrogation, the detainees admitted that they were carrying these weapons to the terrorist Zakir group. They have been collecting illegal weapons and ammunition for a long time, selling them to terrorist groups and conducting various terrorist activities in the area.
