A female cricketer has brought allegation of sexual harassment against Bangladesh Cricket Board's Dinajpur District Coach Abu Samad Mithu.
Dinajpur District Sports Association President and also Deputy Commissioner Mir Khairul Alam issued a show cause notice on the coach following a written complaint filed by the cricketer’s father.
Deputy Commissioner Mir Khairul Alam confirmed the matter to Bangla Tribune.
Mithu, an executive member of Dinajpur's Sports Association, has denied the allegation brought against him.
According to the complaint, the cricketer suffered injuries while practicing under Mithu's supervision on June 1. After providing first aid, Mithu took the cricketer to the Sports Village beside the field. He then asked the girl's friend who had come along with them to go back to the field.
He attempted to sexually harass the cricketer on pretence of treating her. When the girl screamed, Mithu ran away, the complaint reads.
“This allegation is completely false. The allegation has been raised to tarnish the reputation of my cricket coaching academy, and to damage my image,” Mithu told Bangla Tribune.
Deputy Commissioner Mir Khairul Alam said: “Mithu has been asked to respond to the complaint within three days. After receiving his answer, we will carry out an investigation and take action accordingly.”
