The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has arrested two teenagers for reportedly raping and killing a five-year-old child in Gazipur.
One of the accused, a 14-year-old, was arrested in Jessore on Sunday afternoon and according to his information another teen, 14, was arrested in Gazipur on Monday, the PBI has confirmed.
The deceased, Riya Moni, was lured with an offer of a chocolate by the two teenagers on the morning of August 10, when her parents were away at work and she was alone in the house, said Md Maksedur Rahman, superintendent of police of PBI.
“They took her to a room and raped her in turn. When she told them that she would reveal the incident to her parents, the teenagers strangled her to death,” added the police official.
Afterwards, they took the body of the child and buried it beneath a deserted under-construction building in the area. The remains of the girl were recovered by Kashimpur police on October 29, three months after the incident took place.
A case was filed at the police station the next day and it was then handed over to the PBI, police sources confirmed.
“The teenagers confessed to their crimes before a court on Monday,” added the superintendent.
