Police on Saturday night arrested a 65-year-old man for allegedly raping his domestic help in Boalkhali upazila of Chittagong.
The arrestee was identified as Hazi Fazal Karim, a resident of Charkhijirpur Satghariapara in Boalkhali.
After getting the complaint from the victim, police conducted a drive and arrested the man from his residence, said Abdul Karim, officer-in-charge of Boalkhali Police Station.
According to the case statement, the man raped his domestic help on October 30.
Police have sent the victim to a local hospital for medical tests.
Bangladesh has seen a rise in incidents of rape and sexual violence against women and children in recent months. Between January and September, nearly 1,000 rape incidents, including over 200 gang rapes, were reported, according to Ain o Salish Kendra.
As anti-rape protests erupted across the country, the government made the death penalty the highest punishment for the crime.
