Update : 08 Jun 2017, 07:58 PM
A three-day-old infant, stolen from his mother’s lap last Sunday at the labour ward of Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, was rescued by Rapid Action Battalion Unit-8 on Thursday. Three people – Hawa Bibi, 45, her daughter Rina Begum, 22, and son-in-law Solaiman Hossain, 28 – from Nalbunia village under Taltali upazila of Barguna district were arrested in this connection. RAB-8 commanding officer Lt Col Anwar Uzzaman revealed these statements in a press conference on Thursday 12pm at RAB-8 headquarters in Barisal. He said the infant, Taskin, is the son of Salma Begum and construction worker Anwar Hossain Akon of Khorki village under Mehendiganj in Barisal and was delivered at SBMCH on June 1. The father lodged a case with Barisal Kotwali police station on Sunday night and also appealed before RAB-8 on Monday to recover his son. RAB started an investigation, first detaining Hawa Bibi from Nalbunia on Tuesday night. Based on her confessional statement, a RAB team then raided the home of her daughter Rina and son-in-law Sulaiman at Fatulla of Narayanganj and recovered Taskin early Thursday. A RAB official said that the arrestees have confessed their crime to the law enforcers. He said Rina Begum had no child and became physically and mentally ill due to this. Therefore, she abducted Taskin to raise as her own, as Taskin’s parents had other children, he added.
