A teenager was raped in a bus in the capital’s Mirpur area on Tuesday night and later thrown out as the perpetrators drove away.
Two accused in the case – bus driver Rafi and helper Biddyan – gave confessional statements before a metropolitan magistrate court on Thursday, a day after they were arrested, said police.
The girl is currently in police custody and will be sent to a victim support centre in Gazipur since no guardians could be located, said Mehedi Hasan, an inspector (investigation) of Shah Ali police station in the capital.
Police said that the rape survivor, aged around 15-16 years, worked at a readymade garments factory, but recently lost her job before the Eid. She was living in Pallabi area and does not have any family members here, said Mehedi.
On Tuesday, the young adult got on a Satabdi Parabahan bus, which plies between Abdullahpur and Mirpur National Zoo route. The driver and helper misguided her and kept her sitting on the bus for long, he said.
As other passengers got off the bus, they parked the bus on a roadside and raped her. Later, the accused threw her off the bus at Mirpur-1 Chinese Restaurant area, said the police inspector.
Locals rescued her and called emergency hotline 999 for help. Being informed, Shah Ali police took her to a local hospital for treatment.
The rape survivor filed a case against the driver and helper.
On Wednesday night, police conducted a drive and arrested Rafi and Biddyan and the survivor identified them, said Shah Ali police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Asaduzzaman.
The arrested driver and helper admitted to raping her and gave confessional statements before the court, said the OC.
