Agitated people torched a police tow truck on Thursday after it ran over a man in Dhaka.
The incident was reported around 10.30pm near the underpass at the capital’s Gabtali, said the local Darussalam Police Station’s Inspector Dulal Hossain.
Soon after the police vehicle was torched a firefighting unit rushed to the scene and put out the flames, said Duty Officer Mahfuz Riben of the Fire Services headquarters. He, however, could not provide any details.
According to witnesses, the tow truck, which was on the wrong lane of the road, hit a man who was crossing the road with a child.
The man died on the spot while the child was rushed to a hospital, they said but could not confirm which hospital.
Later the mob set fire to the vehicle before police arrived at the scene.
