Update : 21 Jul 2020, 05:47 PM

The investigation of the case against Md Shahed alias Shahed Karim, chairman of Regent Hospital, which has been talk of the town due to allegations of fraud, has been handed over to the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

Lt Col Ashik Billah, director (legal and media wing) of RAB, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Tuesday.

Shahed recently came under spotlight after allegations of his involvement in providing fake Covid-19 certificates and embezzling money from patients surfaced.

“A verbal order from the Ministry of Home Affairs to us a few minutes ago,” Sujoy Sarker, deputy director (media) at the RAB Headquarters, told Dhaka Tribune at around 3:15pm on Tuesday. “But we have not received the written document yet.”

RAB raided the Regent Hospital on July 6, and later on filed a case against Shahed and a few others for scamming patients, running the hospital without appropriate licence, and providing fake Covid-19 health certificates.

Shahed was arrested by RAB on the morning of July 15, from the border area of Satkhira district in southwest Bangladesh.

They handed him over to the Detective Branch (DB) of police on the same day.
