A Chhatra League leader of Government Bangabandhu College in Dhaka accused of raping a ninth grader has been arrested.
The alleged rapist Shamim Reza was arrested from Kashimpur area under Gazipur on Wednesday.
Pallabi police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazrul Islam confirmed the matter.
Shamim is the president of the college Chhatra League unit and completed his honours from there, the OC said.
On Tuesday night, a case was filed against him at the police station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
“He raped her and later said he would marry her,” the OC said.
On Tuesday he threatened the girl, according to one of her relatives. Later the case was filed by her family members.
The victim was raped a few months ago.
