Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Saturday arrested the prime accused Faruk, 30, in a case filed regarding the dual suicide of Hazrat Ali, 45, and his daughter Ayesha Akter, 8, in Gazipur on April 29.
RAB’s Legal and Media Wing Director Mufti Mahmud Khan confirmed Faruk's arrest.
Hazrat Ali and his daughter Ayesha jumped before a moving train near Sreepur Railway Station on April 29, after failing to get justice for the repeated attempts by Faruk to rape the 8-year-old child and grab Hazrat's land.
RAB 1 Commanding Officer (CO) Sarwar Bin Kashem said: “Faruk during his primary interrogation admitted to the attempted rape of 8-year-old Ayesha by luring her with chocolates and food. He also admitted the accusations of harassing Hazrat Ali and his family for a while, along with his cohorts,” at press conference yesterday.

“We have been conducting a shadow investigation along with the police and after a tip-off we managed to arrest Faruk from Islam Nagar area in Savar on Friday around 10pm.”
CO Kashem said that Faruk was in hiding after a case was filed against him by Hazrat Ali's widow Halima Begum.
At first he ranaway to Kapashiya, then Bishow Jaker Monjil (Atroshi Mazer) and then to Jahangir Nagar in Savar.
On January 15, Halima had lodged a complaint with Sreepur police accusing local strongman Faruk of trying to rape her daughter.
Earlier this month, Halima also filed the case against seven people for inducing a situation where her husband and daughter felt compelled to take their own lives.
Police have formed two committees to investigate the incident.
