A Sylhet court on Thursday recorded the statement of a minor schoolgirl, who was raped allegedly by a quinquagenarian, three days after another raped girl told her harrowing ordeal to a separate court in the district.
The victim, 10, narrated the incident under Section 22 of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act before Judge Sabrina Sultana of Chief Judicial Magistrate’s second court.
After recording the statement, the court ordered police to hand over the girl to her mother’s custody as her father is abroad.
Earlier, the culprit Dilip Kumar Deb, an employee of Sylhet Gas Fileds Limited, was sent to jail on Wednesday.
Jaintapur police station’s Sub Inspector Mofazzal Hossain said the victim is a fifth grader of Hazrat Shahjalal Government Primary School of Chuiknagul area.
“She was continuing her studies from the house of one of her distant relatives living at the staff quarter of the gas field employees in Haipur,” he said, adding, Dilip, also a resident at the quarter, called her in a room of the quarter building on Tuesday afternoon and then raped her there.
Dilip also threatened her with dire consequences if she had leaked the matter. Later, the girl became traumatised as the night fell, causing her relatives to dig out what actually had happened with her, the police officer said.
Later, Dilip was arrested and the girl was later taken to the One-Stop Crisis Centre of Osmani Medical College Hospital for better treatment the same night.
