A DMP probe committee has found no direct evidence of police negligence in the recording of the case filed over the rape of two university students at the Raintree hotel in Banani, Dhaka.
However, there were some glitches in the process, confirmed the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
“We have received the probe report. It found no police negligence in the filing of the case, though there were some issues,” DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah told reporters at his office in Dhaka Monday.
“We will ask the police officials concerned to face questioning at headquarters. No one will be spared and legal action will be taken if someone is found to be guilty,” he added.
When asked what the glitches were, the DMP chief said: “We would not have formed probe committee if there were no issues.”
The probe committee, comprised of DMP Additional Commissioner Mizanur Rahman with Joint Commissioners Krishnapada Roy and Abdul Baten, submitted the report earlier in the day.
Two university students were raped at Banani’s Raintree hotel on March 28. The girls went to Banani Police Station to file a case regarding the incident on May 4.
However, police officials allegedly delayed the recording of the case, filing it two days after the victims lodged their complaint.
