Police arrested a man in connection with a case filed for gang-rape in Dhaka’s Darussalam area on Wednesday night.
Five others, mentioned in the case, are absconding. Police are trying to arrest them.
The arrested is Shakib, 19, confirmed Darussalam police Inspector (investigation) Md Dulal Hossain.
Police said that the survivor lives in Dhaka’s Shah Ali area.
She had come to visit her elder sister in Palpara on April 26. The next evening, she went out for a walk when she met some friends of her ex-husband, Dulal said.
She said that there were six people who made an indecent offer to her. Being refused, they took her to the Beribadh area under the jurisdiction of Darussalam police station and raped her, he added.
Later, when the reported perpetrators fled the scene, the rape survivor filed a gang-rape case against six accused with Darussalam police station, the inspector said.
This official said that soon after, police conducted a raid and arrested one of the accused, Shakib.
The rape survivor had informed the police that the reported perpetrators lived in Joharabad area.
“The rest of the accused are absconding. We are trying to arrest them,” Dulal said.
The woman has been admitted to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital for medical examination, he added.
