A young man was arrested on Thursday in Benipur village in Jibonnagar, Chuadanga for attempting extortion while pretending to be a policeman.
According to Jibonnagar Officer-in-Charge Enamul Haque, Nasim frequently visited Mokhlesur in Benipur village, pretending to be a police sub-inspector.
The 25-year-old would offer jobs with the police for a small sum of Tk5,000 each, which he quickly pocketed.
Having duped some young men into paying him Tk5,000 on Wednesday, including Bangladesh Chhatra League's Shimanto upazila unit General Secretary Sohel Rana, Nasim's activities were finally reported to the police.
Police arrested Nasim on the same day and recovered all the money from him.
Sohel Rana has filed a case with Jibonnagar police station in this regard.
